What does the movie theater employee do with the clipboard and light?
Q. I've always been curious; what does the theater employee do who comes in usually halfway through the movie, or shortly before then, usually with a clipboard and light? Is he counting people against the tickets sold, or is he/she just checking for camcorders?
Asked by Joe S - Tue Nov 25 12:27:09 2008 - - 3 Answers - 2 Comments
A. The light is to find people with camcorders that are screen ripping the movie. The clipboard is for whacking the people with the camcorders in the back of the head for bringing them in.

How many movies release to movie theater in a year?
Q. I'm curious... I love to watch movies. I wonder how many movies have been releasing to movie theater in a year?
Asked by Snow Dragon Princess - Tue Oct 14 00:05:45 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I found the numbers and for this year there will be a total of 323 new film releases in theaters. Pai Kia, your number is way over. In order to reach 500 to 1000, 10 to 20 NEW films would have to be released each week. That just does not happen. Some weeks it's only 1 or 2.

What kind of Movie theater popcorn butter is the best?
Q. I love movie theater popcorn because of the extra buttery topping. I would like to buy some but I don't know which kind (brand) to buy. If anyone works at a theater knows what brand they use, I would appreciate it, or if you have tried different brands, which one is the best? I don't have one of those dispensers, but would it work out the same if I just microwave it to warm it up?
Asked by laurajanson - Sat Apr 28 08:34:12 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Get the Orville Redenbaucher (however you spell it) pour over butter. It's not popcorn, its just straight up popcorn butter you pour over your popcorn, well, it's butter flavored oil. You can put as much or as little as you want, I prefer to drown my popcorn in it, but it's not really good for you.

A. Get local color in. If there are stages behind those screens, have music presentations, or dance, guest speakers or other forms of entertainment. Last year, I went to a "dinner" theatre in Dallas, Tx. You buy your tickets at a slightly increased rate from regular seats, go in, sit at tables, and be served drinks and dinner while the movie is playing. It was a terrific combination for those who want dinner and a movie, but didn't feel inclined to drive all over for two seperate things. That would require modifying the property, though, and you may not want to go that far. As far as marketing, reach out to local bookstores, see if they have a guest speaker circuit, and find out if you could have that same guest speaker come in to talk to… [cont.]

How can 1080p look good in a movie theater?
Q. Until recently, I assumed resolution scaled up with screen size. However, now that I know 1080p means there will only be 1,080 lines of resolution, regardless of screen size, it makes me wonder how 1080p could possibly look good in a movie theater. I mean, on a 50 foot screen, the height's about 25 feet, and each line of resolution would be about a quarter inch. Could that be right?

A. I agree with both you and TV Guy. If you want to read a four page article about the evolution of analog movies to digital movies, I have included the URL in the source. If you want just the answer to your question, it is cut and pasted below. --- The 2 million mirror, 2048-line theater system is the pixel equivalent of what the eye can see in 35-mm celluloid film projected from a pristine print by a well-maintained film projector, as verified by ordinary viewers as well as Hollywood s golden eyes. A small number of theaters across the globe have successfully used DLP Cinema for five years without significant problems, proving the reliability of the technology. Now developing even higher-resolution, 4096-line (4K) projectors, JVC, NTT,… [cont.]

A. When I went to see Sweeney Todd, these a$$holes came in, sat by me, texted each other (mind you they were sitting BY each other), decided that the movie sucked because he wasn't "being Captain Jack Sparrow" and left 10 minutes into that. I wanted to strangle both of them. The other being the time I went to see Cloverfield. Some dumb@$$ brought their 2 year old and this kid kept pulling my hair and yeah, got something sticky in it. When they turned the lights on and started the movie, the kid went ape $hit and screamed and cried for 5 minutes before the mom grabbed her up and left. What kind of moron does that!!!

Should i work at a movie theater concessions or push carts at a grocery store?
Q. I know the one I would rather do, but I went to so much trouble just getting job back at grocery store, but I got a call about working at a Regal movie theater which sounds more intersting and exciting to me. I need some opinions?

A. The job at the movie theater probably sounds like lots of fun, you probably know a bunch of other people working there, and you get free movies. But they are also probably going to pay you absolute minimum wage and treat you like a kid. Pushing carts at a grocery store doesn't sound glamorous but there are lots of opportunity to move up through the years and get regular raises while you're going to school. Plus the hours are probably a little better and you may get outta working more holidays. I've done grocery store work before and my roommate worked at Regal for a few years and I always seemed to be getting the better end of the deal. I say give the grocery store a shot.

What do you call the space between hallway doors and theater doors in a movie theater?
Q. I'm working on a project that involves designing a movie theater, and I'd like to know what to call the space. For example, when you're in the hallway getting ready to enter the theater that's showing your movie, you enter one set of doors into a dim corridor, then another set of doors into the theater proper. Is there a specific name for that short corridor?
Asked by wordcross1 - Sat Mar 15 15:59:24 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It could possibly be referred to as the foyer. I looked at some design plans, and it was usually labeled simply as "exit".

Was it inappropriate to tell the movie theater usher I work at a competing movie theater?
Q. Me and my friend got a tour around a first-class movie theater by an usher. He mentioned how it had better services and prices than the other movie theater. How can I start up my own movie theater business?
Q. How can I get a really good loan to do so or a lot of money so that I can start up a movie theater business. Um I'm only 18 years old. But I want to start early so I don't get too old to start up a business and then I die of course.

A. Being a small business owner, you need to pay extra attention to management of financial resources. Since growth of your business somehow depends on its financial position, you should always be cautious about cash flaw within or outside your business. It is quite true that lack of finance can become a big problem in the way of the success of your small business. Since market is crowded with various business loan schemes, every small business owner can manage to get the desired amount without any problem. Therefore if you own a new and small business organization and financial shortfall is bothering you, then these loans can prove to be the best help for you.

A. I don't think that there is a Sims Movies game. For the Sims 2 game there is no movie theater, but you could try searching the web to see if someone has made custom theater objects. The Sims 2 Open For Business expansion pack introduces businesses that your Sims can run. You could use the venue ticket machine to charge customers an hourly fee to be on the lot. I have made a theater-like venue using the big wall-mounted television.

Where do I find a Movie Theater in Brooklyn?
Q. Hi, I am trying to find a movie theater in Brooklyn or possibly in the bensonhurst area. Also, how do i find it. What train or bus to take?

A. I use NYPost.com to find the Brooklyn theaters. If you are not familiar with street names it may take you a few minutes to use mapquest or google maps or something to figure out the exact distance from your present location. As for transportation - that is going to depend on where you are coming from. But, I will suggest going to www.mta.info - you can very easily see what buses go where.

Will I have to pay double for seeing movies at the movie theater?
Q. I was recently hit in the head with a hard soccer ball and now I'm seeing double. Will I have to pay double for a ticket if I go to the movie theater? People in my small town already know of my condition so it's not like I can just not tell them when I go to the theater.
