This is a list of movie theaters Most movie theaters are commercial operations catering to the general public, who attend by purchasing a ticket. The movie is projected with a movie projector onto a large projection screen at the front of the auditorium. Some movie theaters are now equipped for digital cinema projection, removing the need to create and transport a physical film and cinema chains.

The National Association of Theatre Owners The National Association of Theatre Owners is a trade organization based in the United States whose members are the owners of movie theaters.[citation needed] Most major theater chains are members, as are many independent theatre operators; collectively, they account for the operation of over 26,000 motion picture screens in all 50 U.S. states and is the largest exhibition trade organization in the world, representing more than 29,000 movie screens in all 50 states, and additional cinemas in 50 countries worldwide. According to their statistics, just three circuits (as of August 8, 2008) account for 14,739 screens, or roughly half the total represented by the group.

Cinemark, Inc. also has a sizeable number of screens in 12 countries in Latin America which are not included in the figure above. If all screens in Latin America are included, Cinemark is slightly bigger than AMC Entertainment, but AMC Entertainment is larger if you only count screens in the United States.
