The National Association of Theatre Owners The National Association of Theatre Owners is a trade organization based in the United States whose members are the owners of movie theaters.[citation needed] Most major theater chains are members, as are many independent theatre operators; collectively, they account for the operation of over 26,000 motion picture screens in all 50 U.S. states and is the largest exhibition trade organization in the world, representing more than 29,000 movie screens in all 50 states, and additional cinemas in 50 countries worldwide. According to their statistics, just three circuits (as of August 8, 2008) account for 14,739 screens, or roughly half the total represented by the group.
