A movie theater, picture theatre, film theater or cinema is a venue, usually a building, for viewing motion pictures ("movies" or "films").

Most movie theaters are commercial operations catering to the general public, who attend by purchasing a ticket. The movie is projected with a movie projector onto a large projection screen at the front of the auditorium. Some movie theaters are now equipped for digital cinema projection, removing the need to create and transport a physical film print.

Can a movie theater permanently kick you out if you sneak into an r-rated film?
Q. I am 15 and usually I just see r-rated films with my sisters or parents, but now my sisters are in college and not home and my parents have seen all the r movies I want to see. They wouldn't really care if I sneaked into a movie and I wouldn't really care if they kicked me out in the middle of the movie but what I'm afraid of is that I won't be allowed at that theater ever again. Can they do that? I know their allowed to but what are the chances they would do that.

A. The theaters could ban you, but the chances of that are slim at best and here's why: 1. Most of the time, theater employees won't check who's 17 or 18 and older in the middle of the show unless it's a hit movie. Some might even be cool with it and let you see the movie if you stay quiet. 2. It's not worth it, and it's too much hassle for the manager to take time away from important matters and call the police to issue a "no tres passing" order because you were seeing a movie with a few f-bombs, which you probably hear a lot of in school. What they'll probably do is tell you to go home or go back to the movie you bought the ticket for. If you're quite during the movie, you're good. If you're loud and causing people to complain, not so… [cont.]

What is your worst experience in a movie theater?
Q. I go to the theater to watch a movie, what's up with the rude people? Tell me about your worst experience.

A. When I went to see Sweeney Todd, these a$$holes came in, sat by me, texted each other (mind you they were sitting BY each other), decided that the movie sucked because he wasn't "being Captain Jack Sparrow" and left 10 minutes into that. I wanted to strangle both of them. The other being the time I went to see Cloverfield. Some dumb@$$ brought their 2 year old and this kid kept pulling my hair and yeah, got something sticky in it. When they turned the lights on and started the movie, the kid went ape $hit and screamed and cried for 5 minutes before the mom grabbed her up and left. What kind of moron does that!!!

Why are movie theater employees allowed to see a free movie?
Q. Everytime I see a movie, employees just stand there and do nothing! They arnt sweeping or cleaning up or anything and they stand for the entire movie and see a free movie at a theater and not have to pay! Why is that? It drives me crazy. I wish I had a job like them where I can watch new movies everyday and not pay!

A. I worked for a theatre owner and one of the benefits was getting into movies free. However, I was not allowed to do this while "on the clock". My guess would be that these employees are either "staging" for when the movie ends, so they can turn a theatre around in short time, or they're slacking. Either way, it's not a concern of yours unless they obviously disrupt your moviegoing experience. If they're slacking on the job, it's a problem for their manager- not you.
